Just Keep Swimming.

Thank you for your interest in Amazing Company.org, unfortunately, we have decided to hire another candidate. We wish you the best in your job search.

Rejection is one son of a gun. There was no manual to teach us how to handle it, you learn that on your own instead. A sibling to rejection, is plain disappointment. She comes lurking in the night, wondering if you knew she was there. Releasing her power over you like a hyena who pounces on the predator, because that’s the nature of her hunt. To kill, or occasionally to be killed. All you know in the moment is how you feel. How awful you feel and how it can’t seem to stop. The endless pity and disappointment you have for yourself does not seem to stop coming.

Instead, we do what we can to make rejection go away. We attempt to numb the pain by popular methods; drinking, drugs or just about any other unhealthy habit that we know is bad for us, but continue to do it. Because we need to move on, we need to keep going.

While this seems like the default approach of handling rejection, we also mostly forget the best way to actually go through the painful process of recovery. What we need to remember that every rejection is not reflective of our self-worth, that we ourselves are reflective of our own self worth. If we can’t convince ourselves that we can’t do better, we will not attempt to try harder or do better. If we do not know what we are worth, why should anyone else know how much we are worth?

It is what we do in times of hardship that determine our success. Like many quotes on Pinterest, it is not what happens to you, it is how you choose to handle it.

Easier said than done right? How we handle our crisis is extremely substantial to how we will handle similar situations in the future.

The road ahead of us is long one. While it will have bumps, curves, massive turns, I believe the smooth course will extremely rewarding. How do you handle tough times? I would love to know how.
